The choir was formed in 1999 on the initiative of Fenny Trisno Atmodjo. They gave their very first performance at the Millennium Christmas at the Melville Civic Centre in Perth. Members of the choir come from various churches around Perth. They are people who enjoy singing and use their talents to praise the Lord. As a Christian choir, their ministry is to spread God's Word and bring His love for others through singing. They sing at churches around Perth, as well as singing at hospitals and nursing homes. Occasionally, the Choir conducts charity concerts to raise funds and support people in needs (eg. the Christian missionaries, theological schools, victims of natural disasters, other social organisations, etc.).
Besides having its own programs, the Choir has also been invited to sing at several musical events in Western Australia.
In October 2002, the choir performed their first concert ”The Great and Glorious Choruses” and recorded their first CD. In 2004, the choir took part in the Musical Celebration of the Bicentennial Year at the founding of the Bible society at St. Andrew's Church in Perth.
In May 2005, the choir was invited to perform at the ”Praise and Worship Night” which was held at the Tivoli Theatre. The Choir has also worked together many times with the Consulate of Indonesia in holding Classical Charity concerts and Christmas celebrations for the Indonesian community in Western Australia.
The Choir performed a charity concert in August 2006 themed ”The Great and Glorious Choruses II” at St. Joseph Church in Subiaco and was a great blessing for many people who attended. They then have recorded their second CD ”The Great and Glorious Choruses”. The sale of the CDs areused to further their ministry as well as for charitable causes for those who need it.
In April 2007, Phillia Choir together with the Salvation Army Church held a Gospel Celebration, a combined musical event. In December 2008, the Choir held a Christmas Concert, a charity concert which raised funds for one of the theological schools in Indonesia. As they celebrated their 10th Anniversary, Phillia Choir conducted another charity concert, titled ”2009 Mid Year Concert” and invited some fine musicians to take part in the concert. The concert was to raise funds for the Christian missionaries around Asia.
At the end of 2010, Phillia Choir held a concert tour called ”Sacred Choruses” to Melbourne and Sydney and it was a great experience and blessing for everyone.
On 14th October 2012, Phillia Choir had been invited to take part in the Memorial Service of 10th Anniversary of Bali bombings which was held at St. George's Cathedral.
On 24th November 2012, the Choir conducted a charity concert ”Soli deo Gloria”, held at St. Joseph's Church in Subiaco. The fund was raised to support the education of orphanages children in Asia.
Another charity concert called ”Spring Twilight Concert” was held on 24th October 2015 at St. John's Anglican Church in Fremantle. The concert has raised funds for Portal Shelters, a non-profit organisation which build shelters for the earthquake victims in Nepal.
A charity concert ”Alleluia” was held on Saturday, 5th November 2016 at St. Joseph's Church in Subiaco. This time the concert has raised funds to support the homeless people in Western Australia through an organisation called St. Patrick's Community Support Centre.
